HWA Challenge

27 July, 2010

These are the details for the newly restarted HWA woodturning challenge

  • No categories (senior/novice etc) and open to all.
  • Probably quarterly, first round at the October meeting
  • Entries will be displayed, identified only by a number, no name.
  • Members attending meeting vote via ballot slips. No panel of judges and no critique.
  • Members’ choice of 1, 2, 3 to be announced on the night.
  • Prizes to be awarded. HWA committee yet to decide nature of prizes.
  • Participants are invited to make something as their own interpretation of a phrase.
  • Choose from 4 phrases. Here is the challenge for October:

Boxing Clever

The Big Apple

Bowled over

One night stand

  • Entries should mainly feature wood turning but other aspects and materials may be included.

If you think you don’t stand a chance against experienced turners remember Naomi House “light up a life”. The first choice was this elegant, simple trio of candlesticks by Colin Cordery, a novice at the time.
